Design Perspective: Patterning in Design

Aduna by Carter Wong Design

Sometimes (or more than just sometimes) color is what draws me to a piece of design or art. This was definitely one of those times. This packaging piece by Carter Wong Design is brightly colored, and has a sort of festival/party feel. The use of the patterning of the fruit is done well, and ties in to every piece of the system. I especially enjoy the way the bold texture of the top is evened out by the simple salmon/orange band at the bottom. If anything, I wish less typefaces were used for the design on each piece; it gets a bit confusing at what the focus is. The only thing that helps with that is the value of the colors used for the type. Overall, this design is fun to look at, and shows patterning used in a aesthetically pleasing and design conscious way.
