Design Perspective: Animals in Fiber

Elaine Bradford: Installation

Some things are just plain awesome. This installation by Elaine Bradford is just that type of piece. When I first found this piece, I was researching other examples of elephants created in fiber for a weaving project I was doing. I wasn’t able to find anything that was interesting and original at first, and began to get frustrated, until I found this piece. This is a playful piece, with lots of color and joy, and that is what makes it stand out. It makes the idea that knitters and crocheters like to put a cozy on everything seem true (I’m one of those people so I can say that; ask anyone that knows me about my water bottle or my phone). Regardless, I really enjoyed this piece. It brought a smile to my face and got me thinking of how this idea could be brought into my design work. I hope it does the same for all who see it.
